Election Blog Entry 12: Ford Road Co-op puts the “all” in “all-candidates meeting”

The folks at Ford Road Co-op really know how to stage an all-candidates meeting with an emphasis on the “all.” They managed to get every federal candidate running in the Pitt Meadows-Maple Ridge riding, including the Conservative standard-bearer (which has been difficult in many other ridings during this election), to their “Vote co-op housing!” event Monday night. Over 50 co-op members from four different co-ops quizzed the candidates on election campaign issues affecting co-op communities. Five political party candidates (NDP, Conservative, Liberal, Green and an Independent) were asked about their positions re federal funding for provincially-delivered rent supplement programs for low-income housing co-op members. All but Conservative candidate Mike Murray expressed their support. Even Murray expressed the view by the end of the evening that the Conservatives’ position on the end of subsidy issue may need “re-examination.”
