Blog entry 134: The Price is right as Sidney’s Mayor goes to bat Key Campaign

On Monday, the folks from Friendship Co-op in Sidney and CHF BC President Patty Shaw made a presentation to the town council and asked the mayor and council to support the Key Campaign. Much to our delight, Sidney Town Council passed a resolution endorsing the campaign right then and there. But Mayor Steve Price and council took it one step further and today (Friday) wrote to both Housing Minister Rich Coleman and his federal counterpart Candice Bergen urging them to fix the co-op housing crunch.

“We urge you to act quickly to implement the rent supplement program suggested by the Co-operative Housing Federation of British Columbia,” Mayor Price wrote in his letter. “Please reassure those who can least afford to lose their homes in Canada’s most expensive housing market that your government will help them remain in the co-op communities they call home.”

A great big thank you to Mayor Price and his council for showing some resolution and supporting our campaign. What about your co-op community? Why not follow Sidney’s example and pass a resolution — after all, the Price is right!
