Blog Entry 228: Give yourselves a big hand, co-op champions!

The Key Campaign was front and centre at the CHF BC spring Education Conference last weekend, giving delegates an update on the promise in the federal budget to provide short-term funding of $30 million nationally over the next two years to maintain rent-geared-to-income subsidies for low-income co-op members. This short-term funding gives us time to work out a longer-term solution with the province. The details are not yet nailed down and we'll share more news when they're confirmed. But one thing we do know -- it wouldn't have happened without a lot of hard work and support from housing co-op members. So we just wanted to give you a big pat on the back for a job well-done...

And stay tuned! We're working hard to get that federally-funded, provincially-delivered rent supplement program implemented to protect low-income and other co-op households made up of seniors, people with disabilities, lone parent families and others. Watch this site for updates and ways you can help unlock the solution!
