Federal Election Blog Entry One: Vancouver South candidates hold key at Killarney Gardens, support “Vote Coop Housing” campaign

The folks at Killarney Gardens got off to a quick start along the campaign trail by hosting a BBQ for the candidates running in the Burnaby South riding. Candidates from three of the major political parties turned out: NDP candidate Amandeep Nijjar, Liberal standard-bearer Harjit Sujjan and incumbent Wei Young, the Conservative candidate.

Killarney Gardens reps like Sandie Brown were eager to show their community to the candidates and to give them the details of how the co-op housing crunch affects them. They also got to quiz the candidates on whether they support CHF Canada and CHF BC’s federal election Ask that the federal government jointly fund provincially delivered rent supplement programs for low-income co-op members. They were also asked if they support re-investing the $1.7 billion the federal government will save as non-profit housing agreements expire in affordable housing programs.

We’re happy to report that both Nijjar and Sujjan support both and held the Key to the Co-op. Keep checking out this space, our Twitter feed and Facebook page to see who else is voting housing co-op.
