Balanced budget doesn't address affordable housing deficit

CHF BC welcomes the news in yesterday's BC budget that the province will commit $355 million over five years to develop 2,000 new affordable homes.  While we applaud any new investment in affordable housing, the budget does nothing to reassure nearly 4,000 low-income co-op households that their homes will be secure when the rent assistance they received under federal housing agreements ends.  CHF BC and CHF Canada are asking for a provincially-delivered rent supplement program to fix the "co-op housing crunch" before low-income co-op members lose their homes.
