Calling all Surrey, Delta and Langley Co-ops: You Hold the Key! - September 9, 2014

Next up: the fastest growing communities in BC hold a Key Campaign meeting for co-ops

Calling all co-op members in Surrey, Delta and Langley: we'll be holding a meeting on the evening of Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Birch Housing Co-op. Come and learn more about our You Hold the Key Campaign and what members can do to support it.

  • By 2018, 11 (more than half) of the 19 housing co-ops in Surrey, Delta and Langley will see their operating agreements end and the rest will end by 2028
  • Over 225 households face a loss of subsidy by 2018, with that number rising to almost 340 by 2028
  • Our campaign asks the provincial government to step up with a rent supplement program to help keep low-income members in their homes
Join us for a discussion about the facts and what you can do. All co-op members welcome!

And if your co-op community hasn't held a community meeting yet, let us know if you'd like to host one.

Co-ops grill politicians, pass resolutions

With the warm summer weather, more co-ops have been heating up their grills and inviting their elected officials to outdoor parties. And while munching on tasty barbecue treats like grilled salmon and burgers, politicians have been getting a lesson or two on the Key Campaign: who will be affected by the loss of subsidy and details of the simple solution we're proposing.

And while they're flipping patties and shaking hands, a growing list of co-ops have passed a resolution endorsing the campaign and sending it to the Honourable Rich Coleman, Minister Responsible for Housing and Deputy Premier. Why not join them - and let us know?

Find out more about what you can do to support the campaign. Remember, You Hold the Key!
