CHF BC AGM November 30 - Register, run, learn, vote, debate! - November 14, 2013

There's still time to register your delegate to our AGM

We invite all members to send a delegate to our Annual Meeting on Saturday, November 30 in Burnaby. You can also consider running for one of the available positions on the CHF BC board and finance committee.

This year's AGM promises to be more exciting than ever.

You can expect:

  • An election: there are five at-large vacancies on the CHF BC board and one opening on the finance committee. Nomination deadline is November 27
  • Review of our accomplishments in the past year
  • A look at the challenges we'll face in the next decade as co-ops reach the end of their agreements with CMHC
  • The launch of our campaign to convince the provincial government to maintain long-term rent assistance for low-income members when those agreements expire
  • A few surprises we can't tell you about yet

The complete registration package was mailed to your co-op and is also available online. Join us and make your vote count!

What's Happening

CHF BC membership tops 13,000 co-op homes

Earlier this month, CHF BC’s board of directors welcomed three new housing co-ops into Federation membership: Shaughnessy Housing Co-op in Port Coquitlam, Orchard Green Housing Co-op in Victoria, and Clearwater Housing Co-op in Abbotsford. CHF BC’s membership now includes 242 housing co-ops with 13,006 homes, the highest membership total in our history.

More and more co-ops are recognizing that CHF BC’s commitment to supporting their long-term viability is worth the price of membership.

If you are one of the few remaining co-ops that isn’t a CHF BC member, why not check out the full benefits of membership in our growing federation?

Our Group Buying Programs can save your co-op money on products and services like banking, waste and recycling, appliances, flooring, maintenance supplies and more.

Our Education Program offers workshops on everything a successful co-op needs to know about sound management, good governance and principled leadership.  As a member, you can attend our popular Education Conferences or have a portable workshop delivered right at home in your co-op.

These benefits alone can more than cover the cost of CHF BC membership and make it an easy choice for your co-op to belong. But we offer even more for our members.

Our new Model Rules 2.0 will set a bold new standard in co-op governance. They represent the best efforts of CHF BC’s staff, directors, members, management companies and co-op lawyers.  We’ll even show you how to comply with recent changes to the Co-op Act in one easy package.

With the end of federal co-op operating agreements in sight, our work with CHF Canada and the 2020 Vision program is more important than ever. And we’ve launched our Refinancing and Renewal program with Vancity and Terra Asset Management to help you plan now for your long-term sustainability.

CHF BC is proud to be the voice of housing co-ops in British Columbia. At our Annual General Meeting on November 30 we’ll officially launch our campaign with CHF Canada calling on the provincial government to maintain a rent supplement program to keep low-income co-op members in their homes after federal operating agreements end.

Find out more about these and other important initiatives in our member magazine Scoop or on our Facebook page. Or follow us on Twitter for the latest updates.

Call or email us today for more information, or invite us to your next board or members’ meeting. We’ll be glad to explain the benefits of membership.

We look forward to welcoming you into our co-op housing family. There has never been a better time to belong!
