CHF BC Essentials - July 26, 2012

We're 30 years old!

CHF BC was born 30 years ago from the efforts of housing co-ops who wanted to extend the principle of co-operation among co-operatives to build a stronger co-op housing movement in British Columbia.  The federation was incorporated on July 27, 1982. Today we represent and serve almost 240 housing co-ops with almost 13,000 co-op homes. We are proud of our reputation as a dynamic, member-focused association with a mission to promote the long-term sustainability of housing co-ops and the co-op housing sector.

Together with our members we’ve come through challenges of leaky co-ops and government claw-backs, developed the Model Rules for housing co-ops, and we now stand ready to support co-ops as they transition to life outside government operating agreements.
Happy Birthday CHF BC!

CHF BC welcomes second partner to its Lower Mainland Flooring Program

Beginning August 1, CHF BC members in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley can now choose from two flooring suppliers. Our members buy more than $1 million a year in flooring product in our group buying program. Now the program offers you more choice. We’ve doubled our capacity and improved our turnaround time so members won’t have to wait to meet their flooring needs.

CHF BC followed a rigorous selection process to select our new partner. We identified five credible candidates in order to ensure that the chosen program partners give members the best quality product, service and price.

Because we’ve researched and identified the best options, members that work with a Flooring Program partner are not obliged to follow CMHC’s three-quote requirement for capital replacements.

Since 1999, CD Contract has been CHF BC’s flooring partner and will continue with the program. CHF BC is pleased to welcome a second partner, K&A Flooring.

Take the Model Rules Survey - deadline Monday, August 13!

CHF BC invites your co-op's feedback on the current Model Rules and Occupancy Agreement.

We want to know what you like and don’t like about your Rules and Occupancy Agreement. Give us suggestions for improvement for a new version of the Model Rules, which we will produce by the end of 2012 - Model Rules 2.0.

If your co-op hasn’t completed the online survey yet, please get in touch and ask to take part. Contact Jenny Kong at or 604-879-5111 (1-866-879-5111) ext. 135 for the link to the survey.

Thanks to all who have already completed the survey.
