Co-ops South of the Fraser join the Key campaign - September 20, 2014

Abbotsford holds the key; Surrey, Delta and Langley co-ops get on the bandwagon

The City of Abbotsford held the key last week when Councillor John Smith (who happens to be Chair of the Abbotsford Affordable Housing Fund Technical Advisory Committee) made the motion and urged the Honourable Rich Coleman, Housing Minister “to do the right thing” and implement our proposed rent supplement program for seniors, low-income and other co-op members. Calling all co-ops in Surrey, Delta and Langley...

Calling all co-op members in Surrey, Delta and Langley: we'll be holding a meeting on the evening of Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Birch Housing Co-op in Surrey (7062 - 138th Street). Come and learn more about our You Hold the Key Campaign and what members can do to support it.

By 2018, 11 (more than half) of the 19 housing co-ops in Surrey, Delta and Langley will see their operating agreements end and the rest will end by 2028
  • Over 225 households face a loss of subsidy by 2018, with that number rising to almost 340 by 2028
  • Our campaign asks the provincial government to step up with a rent supplement program to help keep low-income members in their homes
Join us for a discussion about the facts and what you can do. All co-op members welcome!

And if your co-op community hasn't held a community meeting yet, let us know if you'd like to host one.
