Southeast Vancouver co-ops hold the key with community meeting

Show you care -- fill this chair!

Empty chairs send the wrong message to the provincial government. They’ll think you don’t care about the most vulnerable members of your co-op community who are working hard to keep their homes affordable. So show you care -- fill that chair at this Thursday’s meeting for southeast Vancouver Co-ops at Killarney Gardens Co-op on Thursday, June 26.
  • By 2021, 15 of the 21 housing co-ops in the Southeast Vancouver area will see their operating agreements end and another five will end by 2028
  • Close to 360 households will face a loss of subsidy by 2021, with that number rising to over 820 by 2028

And the numbers for the province are even higher.

Let’s pack the common room at Killarney Gardens Co-op and send a strong, clear message to Housing Minister Rich Coleman that he has to put a provincial rent supplement program in place to help your friends and neighbours stay in their homes after the end of co-ops' federal operating agreements.

Join the You Hold the Key Campaign team for this co-op community meeting on Thursday, June 26 at Killarney Gardens Co-op.  All co-op members welcome.

You hold the key!

Tri-Cities co-ops filled chairs in Coquitlam

Last week, more than 40 members of co-ops in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody packed the community meeting room at Falcon Estates Co-op in Coquitlam to learn about the campaign at a Tri-Cities community meeting. They learned about what the end of operating agreement will mean for their co-ops, the solution proposed by the campaign and how they can help. Members then brainstormed ways to make sure our message is heard.
