Special Edition: CHF BC calls on members to help Calgary housing co-ops hit by floods

Two Alberta co-ops   Sunnyside in Calgary and Hi-wood Meadows in High River  have faced severe damage from the recent flooding.  According to Southern Alberta Co-operative Housing Association (SACHA)'s executive director, Brenda Davies, more than two-thirds of Sunnyhill Housing Co-op’s 66 homes were damaged. And Hi-Wood Meadows Housing Co-op remains completely evacuated, with extensive flooding to many of its 62 units. Although both co-ops have commercial flood insurance, this won't cover high insurance deductibles nor individual members’ household contents and other costs including displacement expenses and temporary storage.

CHF BC remembers the amazing support we received from Alberta housing co-ops years ago during the fight to save leaky co-ops.  We said that we would never forget, and we won’t.  CHF BC is donating $2,000 to the Calgary flood relief effort. We would like to challenge our member co-ops to increase that amount by donating $1 to the fund for every co-op unit. Let’s show our friends in Calgary what co-operation among co-operatives is all about!

You can make your donation directly by following the instructions below or send it to CHF BC and we’ll pass it along.

SACHA has set up a trust account:
