Island co-op members are invited to an introductory session of Hans Kai which will give you an overview of both the adult and teen programs from 4:30 – 6:00 pm Tuesday, March 10 in the Lower Hall, Fairfield United Church, Fairfield and Moss. Please let us know if you can attend – see how to confirm below.Hans Kai is a wellness program that equips individuals to take the lead in achieving and maintaining optimal health in a peer supported environment. This may be of particular interest to co-ops as they face the challenges of “aging in place”.Hans Kai was developed in Japan to help people focus on increasing their health knowledge and their ability to monitor their own basic health indicators in a peer-supported environment with the aim of maintaining wellness. Hans Kai was brought to Canada by Nor’West Co-op in Winnipeg and RobertCliche Co-op in Quebec. The program is available through health co-ops that are members of the Health Care Co-op Federation of Canada, co-ops such as the Victoria Health Co-op. The program equips people to understand and monitor their health indicators. Hans Kai focuses on achieving and maintaining optimal wellness with peer-to-peer support. It does not treating existing serious illness. Adult Hans Kai works well for seniors groups, choirs, hiking groups, sports teams, book clubs and art groups. Ideally group participants already know each other.
