May Movie Night: Asian Heritage Month – double bill

18 May 2021      online      CHF BC event

Join us as we celebrate Asian Heritage Month with this free double bill of the linked documentary films Cedar and Bamboo and All Our Father’s Relations.

6 p.m.

The directors of Cedar and Bamboo, Diana Leung and Kamala Todd, will join us to discuss the making of their documentary that recounts the life experiences of four descendants of mixed Chinese and Musqueam heritage, and explores the relationships shared by early Chinese immigrants and First Nations peoples on Canada’s west coast.

Then stick around to watch All Our Father’s Relations which tells the story of the Grant siblings who journey from Vancouver to China in an attempt to rediscover their father’s roots and better understand his fractured relationship with their Musqueam mother. Raised primarily in the traditions of the Musqueam people, the Grant family and their story reveals the shared struggles of migrants and Aboriginal peoples today and in the past.
