The Vancouver Island Council meeting on October 17 held three elections:
One for a Vancouver Island director, with the only candidate being Art Farquharson who was acclaimed to another two-year term on the CHF BC board, representing Island members.
The other elections were for a Vancouver Island Council chair and Vice-Chair. Shannon Sangster of Tyee was elected as Chair and after a tie for the position of Vice-Chair, Fern Hallam of Greenway is now the new Vice-Chair.
In addition to updates from CHF BC and CHF Canada, delegates heard a presentation from guest speaker Tanyss Knowles (BC Society of Transition Houses) about the Getting Home Project which seeks to find ways for co-ops to be part of helping women and families experiencing violence. The Council also held an award ceremony for three Island members receiving the Century of Co-operation Award.
