Living in a Housing Co-op
Co-op members and their families share the experience of co-op living: everyone should have a place and the supports they need to feel at home.
CHF BC and its member housing co-ops are part of a bigger community of co-operatives.
As a member organization, we provide services, advice, and information to members of housing co-ops.
Ways We Support Co-op Living
Education
Our education program strives to provide the information you need to build and manage a thriving co-op. Explore our new Centre for Co-operative Learning as a new online platform to access resources, online courses and education events.
Resident Member Buying Program
Residents of CHF BC member co-ops can access exclusive discounts to TELUS and RONA.
Scholarships & Funding
For those looking to move into a co-op, The Disability Trust and the Domestic Violence Relief Fund can help with share purchase costs through loan programs.
For those currently living in a co-op, we offer several types of scholarships for youth and adults.
Aging in Place
As housing co-op members get older, they may face challenges that make it more difficult to continue to live safely in their units, to remain fully involved in their co-op communities and to know where to get support when they need it.
The benefits of aging in place are well-known, but co-ops may need help to support their valued aging members. Whether you’re looking to live independently for longer, or to support your neighbours, we have resources for you.
Youth Committee
The Youth Committee is a way for young members to shape the future of the co-op movement in BC. This newly launched initiative invites youth (aged 16 – 22) to share ideas, raise issues, and influence the work of CHF BC.
Vancouver Island
In 2002, the Vancouver Island Co-op Housing Association merged with CHF BC.
In order to support the needs of Vancouver Island members, we host several events in and around Victoria every year, including Vancouver Island Council meetings.
