Youth Committee

Housing co-ops thrive when new generations step forward.

The Youth Committee is a way for young members to shape the future of the co-op movement in BC. This newly launched initiative invites youth (aged 16 – 22) to share ideas, raise issues, and influence the work of CHF BC.

Why a Youth Committee?

The CHF BC Board of Directors recognized a need to elevate the voices, experiences, and leadership of young people in the co-operative housing movement in BC.

The committee will:

  • Advise the CHF BC Board and staff on issues impacting youth in housing co-operatives, including affordability, governance participation, equity, and community life
  • Support youth engagement, leadership development, and pathways into co-op governance and sector leadership
  • Identify barriers to youth participation in CHF BC, their housing co-ops and their governance and propose practical solutions
  • Contribute to the development and review of youth-focused programs, engagement strategies, and educational offerings
  • Support outreach to young people living in co-operative housing and act as ambassadors for the co-op housing movement among youth networks
  • Provide input on how CHF BC can better support intergenerational collaboration within co-ops

Youth Committee members will be appointed to a two-year term once selected and will be supported by CHF BC staff and designated board members. Members must live in a CHF BC co-op and be between 16 and 22 when joining.
