DeCosmos Village is a housing co-operative located on the northwest corner of Boundary Road and 49th Avenue in Vancouver. Built in 1972, it consists of 110 townhouse units, including 30 two-bedroom units, 75 three-bedroom units, and 5 four-bedroom units. There are no one-bedroom units nor handicapped-accessible units available.
Â
Units are owned collectively by the co-operative rather than by individual members. Like all housing co-operatives, membership requires purchasing shares, which vary in cost based on the unit size.
Â
DeCosmos Village Housing Co-operative, governed by the BC Co-operative Association Act as of 2020, follows its Rules and Occupancy Agreement approved and filed with the Registrar of Companies. These establish how the co-op operates.
Â
The Board of Directors and its advisory committees consist of co-op members who meet regularly to govern the co-op, make long-term plans, beautify and maintain the property, and address issues promptly.
Â
Members of DeCosmos Village strive to ensure that it remains a great place to live. The buildings are well-maintained, and the grounds and greenery are carefully tended. The membership is well-informed and knowledgeable. They achieve this through active participation. While participation is generally more about planning of physical labour, members and associate members are expected to serve on at least one committee and attend the general meetings, which are held at least twice a year. The goal is to preserve the cooperative's quality.
