CHF BC invites members to comment on draft Model Rules 2.0

  20 June 2013

After months of preparation, the draft model Rules and Occupancy Agreement are now available for your comments. We want to make sure that the final Model Rules 2.0 work well for housing co-ops. And the best way to do that is to get comments from our members.  You will find the drafts on the members-only section of our website.CHF BC has been working hard to improve the Model Rules that we first developed in 2002.  These Rules have stood up well over the years – they have become the governance standard for housing co-ops in BC. But with more than a decade of experience, it’s time to make some improvements. Ideas about good governance have evolved.  And recent amendments to the Cooperative Association Act require changes to every co-op’s Rules.CHF BC has consulted extensively with member co-ops and management companies, co-op lawyers, CHF BC staff, directors, workshop leaders and consultants. The process included an online survey of member co-ops in 2012 and consultations at a Member Forum and Vancouver Island Council meeting in 2013.We’re confident that Model Rules 2.0 will raise the bar for best governance practices in our member housing co-ops, and we look forward to hearing what you think. Please send your comments to Sue Moorhead, education director, at smoorhead@chf.bc.ca before Tuesday, July 2. We will review your feedback, consult again with our lawyers, and issue the final Model Rules 2.0 later this summer. If you are having any problems logging into the members-only pages, please contact members@chf.bc.ca.
