CHF BC launched its provincial election campaign in Vancouver and Victoria on Monday, April 15, with the slogan, “you hold the key.” The campaign aims to tell all parties and candidates in the provincial election that they hold the key to ensure that the provincial government maintains long-term rent assistance for low-income co-op members when federal housing agreements end.Members gathered at Lakewood Terrace Co-op in Vancouver at 11 am and were joined by City of Vancouver Councillor Geoff Meggs and Vancouver-Hastings MLA, Shane Simpson. CHF BC’s executive director, Thom Armstrong, MC’ed the event and CHF Canada’s president, Anne Davidson gave the national perspective. Members also heard from our first shadow candidates: Yuri Artibise, member of Athletes Village Co-op and a CHF BC director, is the shadow candidate for two ridings, Vancouver-False Creek and Vancouver-Point Grey; and Haruko Okano, a member of China Creek Co-op, is the shadow candidate for Vancouver-Mount Pleasant.The event was caught on camera and in print by City TV (not broadcast to date), The Vancouver Sun, Sing Tao Daily and the World Journal.On the Island, CHF BC’s government relations director, Darren Kitchen, Island director, Patty Shaw, and Kailasa Co-op member Lorraine Murray, went to the provincial legislative press gallery and spoke directly with the media.For links to all media coverage and more information about the election campaign, see CHF BC’s Election Central.
