Empty Homes Tax Funding for New Non-Profit Homes in Vancouver

  24 February 2020

The City of Vancouver is launching a new program to help increase the number of non-profit and co-op homes in the municipality.

Using moneys from the Empty Homes Tax and the City’s own capital budget, the program offers incentives that can be paired with funding from other sources.

Key points to note:

  • The total amount of money available over the next three years is $25 million.
  • Organizations using City-leased land are NOT eligible. (This disqualifies about half of Vancouver’s co-ops from the start.)
  • Preference will be given to proposals that help meet the City’s equity, access and reconciliation goals.

For more information see the Community Housing Incentive Program website. We expect this will be a very popular program. Don’t delay if you’re interested in pursuing an application.
