Job Opportunity: Indigenous Internships with the CHTC

  10 November 2023

The Community Housing Transformation Centre works across Canada to ensure the transformation, sustainability and growth of community-housing services in order to achieve housing for all. We identify and facilitate the development of expertise, resources and promising practices for the sector. The Centre achieves its mission by helping community-housing providers (cooperatives and non-profit housing) and sector bodies (associations, federations, etc.) to find solutions to their financial and organizational challenges.

The Centre is committed to Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.  Considering the significance of affordable and quality community housing and the need for leadership succession in Indigenous communities for the purposes of developing and maintaining quality affordable housing, the Centre is pleased to introduce a program for Indigenous Internship.

Internship Description

The program is aimed at refining skills, professional development, and knowledge of the community housing sector among early career professionals who identify as Indigenous. The objective is to encourage and nurture future Indigenous leaders in the community housing sector.

Applications will be sought from those interested in a career in the community housing sector, or, from those who are already working in the sector (recent university or college graduates would be an asset) between 18 and 30 years old who identify as Indigenous. The interns will be provided with guidance and support from a full-time Indigenous coach who has expertise in Canada’s community housing sector.

Each intern will learn about the Centre’s programs and will gain work experience and benefit from internal mentorship as well as gain working experience externally with other sector organizations. The interns will also assist the Centre with program outreach, strategic initiatives, planning, and improvement in service procedures. Participants will have access to all educational content in which Centre participates, such as conferences and coursework.
