The City of Vancouver Annual Greenhouse Gas and Energy Limits By-law PDF filrequires owners and managers of existing large commercial and multi-family buildings to measure and report on annual energy usage.
Starting in 2026, multi-family residential buildings of 50,000 square feet or larger in the City of Vancouver will have to report their annual energy consumption for the previous calendar year. For co-ops with buildings 100,000 square feet or larger, 2026 will be the second reporting year. The reporting deadline is June 1, 2026.
The first step is to ensure you have energy benchmarking set up through ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager. If your co-op has a building that needs to meet reporting requirements, we encourage you to reach out to us now, particularly if 2026 is your first reporting year.
CHF BC offers support to co-ops with energy benchmarking setup and can also provide some guidance with reporting, including tips for navigating requirements. Contact us at [email protected] by November 30, 2025 to get started.
