The Vancouver Island Meet and Greet election event, hosted by Marigold Housing co-op, brought together 25 members from housing co-ops in Victoria and Esquimalt – Juan de Fuca to hear candidates from both ridings discuss their parties’ plans for co-op housing if they are elected. Dr Keith Martin, Liberal candidate and sitting MP for Esquimalt – Juan de Fuca, attended on behalf of his party. NDP candidate for the same riding, Jennifer Burgis, represented the NDP while Adam Saab, who is running in Victoria, spoke for the Green Party.
All three emphasised the need for new co-op and affordable housing and addressed members’ question on health care, the economy and the environment.
The Conservative candidates for the ridings were unable to attend.
