On Tuesday, October 7, Halston Hills Housing Co-op in Burnaby hosted a successful meet-the-candidates event organized by CHF BC and CHF Canada. More than 20 co-op members were on hand to meet and ask questions of NDP incumbent Bill Siksay and Liberal candidate Bill Cunningham.
Both candidates expressed strong support for co-op housing, including our election campaign priorities: federal money for new co-ops, expanded subsidies for existing co-ops, and funding for renovations, renewal and energy refits for the aging stock of co-op housing.
Though invited, the Conservative and Green candidates did not attend.
Members present asked very thoughtful questions of the candidates, on a wide range of issues including the economy, the environment and health care.
