Register of Members

The Co-op Act (section 124) and your Rules require keeping a member register, also called a share register. The register must include the names and addresses of the members, the number of shares held by each member and the amount paid on each membership share, the date their name was entered in the register, and (for former members) the date they ceased to be a member. See sample register of members.

The register of members is a legal document and will be relied on in any dispute about membership, so it is very important for a co‑op to keep its register accurate and up-to-date.

The co‑op’s member sign-in sheet should exactly correspond to the information in the register of members.
