Co-ops in southeast Vancouver bring record turn-out to campaign meeting

  27 June 2014

Over 70 people from nine co-ops in the Champlain Heights, Collingwood and Kingsway neighbourhoods came to a community meeting of co-ops at Killarney Gardens Housing Co-operative’s common room on Thursday, June 26, to learn more about the You Hold the Key Campaign. They learned what’s at stake for co-ops across the province where over 1500 households risk losing their homes by 2017 with that number rising to 3000 homes by 2020.  There was a lively discussion about ways to get the message across to the provincial government to stop the loss of subsidy for their co-op’s low-income members. Members are planning to speak directly to their local elected officials and send a message to Housing Minister Rich Coleman to act now to protect co-op’s most vulnerable members. The next campaign meeting will be in Victoria at Seawalk Co-op on July 8.Find out more about what you can do and follow our campaign blog.
