Fighting for housing co-ops in the federal election

  3 June 2010

CHF BC and CHF Canada will be fighting, during this federal election, for more co-ops and other forms of affordable housing. Barbara Fisher (president of Misty Ridge Co-op and a former two-term Burnaby school trustee) has been hired to coordinate the campaign during the federal election. However, she can’t do alone. We need you, as co-op members, to help get this issue of real importance into the spotlight.
Here’s how you can get involved:
– WATCH FOR MAILOUTS on their way from CHF BC and CHF Canada with election tools pushing for affordable housing such as posters, flyers, and briefing notes
– VISIT THE “ELECTION CENTRAL” WEBPAGE at www.chf.bc.ca/pages/election.asp on CHF BC’s website. It will keep you up to date on issues, election events and candidate platforms. It will give you the news, information and guidance in order to participate in the democratic process.
– GET INVOLVED – Write letters, call candidates, journalists and attend local debates or better yet arrange an all candidates meeting in your community. Do whatever you can to force candidates to talk about affordable housing. We will be working to organize a special all-parties discussion forum on affordable housing, so watch for that date to be posted on our election web page.
– VOTE. On Election Day be sure to vote. Check around and be sure your friends and neighbours have been to the polls. Co-op members are a powerful voting group. Make you vote count
Together we CAN make a difference!
