Charles Square Housing Co-operative

1555 Charles St, Vancouver, BC V5L 2T2
Charles Square Housing Co-op is a 36-unit non-profit co-op and a community based on the participation and mutual respect of all members. Charles Square was built in 1987 and underwent major renovations in 2010-11. It is located one block west of Commercial Drive, across from Grandview Park. There is easy access to bus routes, Skytrain, shops, restaurants, community centre and schools.

12 units are subsidized. Subsidy only occasionally becomes available to new applicants. Waiting times vary, but are rarely less than one year. Pets are allowed with some restrictions. Cats MUST be indoor cats (no exceptions). There are limits on dogs' size. No more than two pets per suite are allowed, and only one dog.

Smoking is not allowed in common areas of the building or on suite balconies or patios.
We have an inner courtyard which has a play area for children and an area where all members can socialize. Our meeting room is available for members' personal use, such as for parties. Laundry facilities are available and there is free underground parking. Two- and three-bedroom suites have in-suite laundry hook-ups. [Unit numbers combine apartment and townhome units]
All our waiting lists are closed. People already on our lists are encouraged to attend one of our meetings. If you have any questions, you can e-mail cshc.membership@gmail.com. (Sorry, but we are not able to accept electronic applications, and we don't mail out paper application forms.)

We hold an orientation to our co-op each spring and fall. This is a chance to hear how the co-op operates, ask questions and view a suite. When a vacancy comes up in the co-op, we give priority to applicants who have attended an Orientation or one of our General Membership meetings. High priority is given to applicants who attend both.

For dates of upcoming meetings and other Charles Square updates, please follow this link to Twitter (http://twitter.com/CSHousingCoop)

When a suite becomes available, the Membership Committee will contact people on the wait list for an interview. We give priority to applicants who have attended at least one meeting.

After you have applied, please contact the co-op if you have any big changes in contact information or household size. We will only keep your application for two years from the date we receive it, or the date of our last contact with you. It is your responsibility to keep your application current.
