Happy Sikh Heritage Month!

  27 April 2022

Join us at CHF BC as we recognize and celebrate Sikh Canadians and their accomplishments and contributions.

April is Sikh Heritage Month in BC. A significant time for many Sikhs as April marks the occasion of Vaisakhi, a celebration of the spring harvest, the holiest celebration in Sikh faith. April also marks the creation of the Khalsa by Sri Guru Gobind Singh.

The theme for 2022 is “Sat Sri Akaal”. Though this phrase is commonly recognized as a greeting used amongst members of the Sikh and Punjabi community, few stop to think about the origin of the phrase and the true meaning behind it.

Join us as we strengthen our own knowledge of this month and Sikh Heritage in Canada.

CHF BC is taking action to tackle hate and discrimination through our strategic priority of ‘belonging.’ We aim to inspire housing co-ops to be communities that promote and embody equitable access, opportunity, respect, and a sense of belonging for everyone. Our efforts include:

  • Working with housing co-ops to identify and work to remove barriers to equity and inclusion
  • Modeling best practices to promote equity and inclusion and to increase diversity among CHF BC directors, staff, workshop leaders, contractors, and consultants; and,
  • Reviewing and refreshing our education program, management services and development practices to reflect this strategic priority.
