Inspire change in your housing co-operative in 2024.

CHF BC is proud to announce the launch of the Year of Belonging Awards.

This new award program recognizes co-op led activities that advocate for belonging through equity, inclusion, and diversity. We want all CHF BC members to showcase how their housing co-operative celebrates belonging!

How it Works

Get ready to celebrate belonging and inspire change with your housing co-op members!

Participating in the Year of Belonging Awards is simple. From March 1 to May 15, 2024, housing co-op members are invited to choose a cultural celebration or observance to honor in their community. Next, you plan an inclusive activity that involves members and staff of your co-op. Then you document the activity with photos, videos, podcasts, or other forms of record. Finally, you submit activity details via our online form by May 16, 2024. Winners will be announced during our 2024 Spring Forum on May 26, 2024.

Award Criteria

Host an activity to embrace and empower diverse voices within your co-op.

To be eligible for the award, co-op-led activities should:

• Promote and honour underrepresented communities or cultures.
• Educate and enlighten members on key principles of diversity and belonging.
• Cultivate leadership among marginalized groups.

Most importantly, activities should serve as a source of inspiration for other housing co-ops in promoting belonging among their members.

Get ready to be celebrated, recognized, and empowered like never before!

Winners of a Year of Belonging Award receive $1,000 to support diversity and belonging in their housing co-op. They also receive a custom-made wood plaque crafted by the artisans at Wood Shop Co-operative. Moreover, you will be invited to our 2024 Spring Forum, where your co-op will be honored alongside fellow belonging trailblazers.

How to Apply

It’s easy – just fill out our online form and hit submit!

To apply for the Year of Belonging Award, fill out our online application form by May 1, 2024. You are encouraged to share details about your activity, participants, lessons learned, and positive impacts in your co-op. This is an excellent opportunity to celebrate and recognize your co-op’s commitment to fostering a sense of belonging among your members.
