Island Co-op Housing Education Day – Hotel Grand Pacific, Victoria
This workshop will share learning from the Community Land Trust's experience working with existing co-operative housing communities and senior government partners to identify opportunities for development. Through case studies, participants will have the opportunity to learn:
Typical municipal process and timelines
Roles of stakeholders
Examples of challenges, mitigation strategies, and lessons learned
Examples of approaches for redevelopment of co-operative housing
A facilitated Q&A session will follow, co-facilitated by Lilly Wilson and Tiffany Duzita of the Community Land Trust Foundation of BC. Participants will discuss how to apply the learning from the case studies to the co-op housing sector. This workshop may generate ideas for co-ops exploring options for large-scale renovations and / or redevelopment. Discussion will include considerations specific to the sector when it comes to redevelopment of co-op sites, challenges that might arise specific to the co-op sector and how these could be mitigated.
Workshop facilitators: Tiffany Duzita and Lilly Wilson
Tiffany is the Director for the Community Land Trust of BC, responsible for operations and execution on the future growth plans of the organization. As an accomplished real estate professional, she brings substantial experience and leadership to Community Land Trust of BC to build upon its mission to deliver affordable homes to families, individuals, and seniors.
Lilly is responsible for assisting in project feasibility analyses, identifying and responding to funding opportunities, building and maintaining community partner relations, as well as moving projects through municipal approvals, construction, and marketing phases. She comes to CLT with a background in housing, social planning, and community-centred development.
