Shivani from our Active Resilient Communities (ARC) team joined a recent Vancouver Island Council meeting to share information on the new program and how it can benefit housing co-op members.
The District of Saanich has now opened applications for our advisory committees, foundations, and boards. These are an excellent way to become more involved in your community, bring your co-op and lived experiences and advocacy to the District, learn how City Hall operates, and to meet people with similar interests.
Applications are open until March 17, 2023.
Vancouver Island members are invited to join us for two exciting upcoming events.: Vancouver Island Council and Anniversary Reception, and Island Education Day.
Our Communications Director, Yuri Artibise, will be in Victoria from April 6-8, 2022. During his visit, he will be available to meet with Vancouver Island co-op members, staff, and partners.
2022 marks the 20th anniversary of the merger of The Vancouver Island Co-operative Housing Association and the Co-operative Housing Federation of BC. The result — one federation serving housing co-ops across the province — has been a resounding success.
Early pioneers Charles and Nancy Alexander moved north from California in 1858. In setting down roots on Vancouver Island became some of the first community builders in the Victoria area.
Their legacy of giving back to and strengthening the Victoria and Saanich communities has earned them a prominent place in BC’s history.
For more than 30 years, Kerry Smith has worked tirelessly on behalf of the co-op sector – advocating, advising, and supporting with knowledge and wisdom in a variety of roles – and will be deeply missed as she begins her retirement effective today.
A treasured friend and colleague, Kerry has been looking forward to this next chapter in her life for some time and has decided to move up her retirement date to get a jump on all the adventures she has planned (many involving her trail bike, Mollie!).
