WISHS Housing Co-op embarking on a critical elevator modernization project and required the support of the co-op housing community.

As we celebrate Black History Month, it’s important to reflect on the rich tapestry of Black experiences woven into the fabric of Canadian history.

Recently, staff and directors from CHF BC, BCNPHA and CHF Canada embarked on a journey through Vancouver’s Black History as they toured Hogan’s Alley

The governments of Canada and British Columbia along with the City of Vancouver announced combined funding of more than $91 million for a major affordable housing project that will build 154 new homes for people living and working in Vancouver.

The project is owned and operated by Community Land Trust in partnership with McLaren Housing Society. The first two floors will be the new home for QMUNITY, a non-profit organization that works to improve queer, transgender, and Two-Spirit lives.

CHF BC hosted the latest get-together in our neighbourhood event series on July 12, 2023, with a group of housing co-ops in the Marpole neighbourhood of Vancouver.

Members from several Marpole housing co-ops spent a beautiful summer evening touring neighbourhood co-ops. During the tour, they shared their co-op living experiences with one another.

On April 28, 2023, CHF BC resumed its program of neighbourhood events with a group of housing co-ops located in the Grandview-Woodland neighbourhood of Vancouver.

Members from a number of housing co-ops from the neighbourhood had the chance to meet and discuss issues of common interest and visit several of the neighbourhood non-profit housing co-ops.

Your feedback will help the city understand the housing needs of seniors, Elders and older adults aged 55+ living in Vancouver. Your input will help shape policies, partnerships, and advocacy actions being developed as part of the Seniors Housing Strategy this year.

On February 14, 2023, Vancouver City Council established 15 advisory committees for the current term. These opportunities may be of interest to Vancouver co-op members or friends.

Applications are open until March 19, 2023.

While we aren’t usually excited about pictures of a hole in the ground, we’re making exceptions to these photos taken last weekend of a new co-operative being laid in the Joyce Collingwood neighbourhood of Vancouver.

As part of its Climate Emergency Action Plan, the City of Vancouver will assisting residents in multi-family buildings, with programs to aid with access to retrofits that support emission reductions.

The co-op put co-op housing on the map in Vancouver, and were also significantly involved in establishing CHF BC.
